Significance

The authors describe an enantioselective dipolar cycloaddition of nitrones and electon-deficient alkenes and alkynes. This work follows the authors’ work on the asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction using similar alanine-derived chiral ligands (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 7532). The enantioselectivities are generally good for both alkene and alkyne dienophiles.
