Significance

Magnetic nanoparticle supported TEMPO (MNST) was prepared by mixing 4-oxo-TEMPO and silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles (AMNP), which were prepared by treatment of Fe3O4 nanomagnet with Si(OEt)4 followed by immobilization of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (eq. 1). MNST catalyzed the aerobic oxidation of alcohols 1 in the presence of t-BuONO in H2O under O2 (1 atm) to give the corresponding carbonyl compounds 2 in 61-100% GC yield (eq. 2, 32 examples).
