Introduction

Gastric bleeding in children can be caused by a wide variety of etiologies [1] [2]. Cavernous malformation of the hepatic portal and splenic vein may be acquired or congenital. However, due to the thrombophilic nature of cavernous malformation, collateral changes to associated vessels can be expected to occur after thrombosis. Once portal venous thrombosis develops, there is increased resistance to blood flow from the splanchnic circulation. Gastric bleeding secondarily due to this etiology is rare. We report on a 17-year-old boy who presented with secondary gastric bleeding due to hepatic portal and splenic venous cavernous malformations.
