Abstract

A simple and convenient synthetic method to prepare N-substituted pyrrole-3-carbaldehydes by Vilsmeier–Haack formylation of pyrroles using sterically crowded formamides was developed. The dependence of the formylation regioselectivity on steric features of substrates and reagents is discussed.
