Background

Ocular complications of sickle cell disease include anterior, posterior segment and orbital abnormalities and are secondary to tissue ischemia.Various types of sickling disorders such as SS, AS, SC and SThal could present ocular associations and therefore ophthalmic controls are part of the general screening procedures. Examination of patients with sickling hemoglobinopathies should begin in childhood and continue throughout life at annual intervals [1].

The spectrum of anterior segment manifestations is wide and includes conjonctival vessel alterations, iris depigmentation or atrophy [2], [3], anterior uveitis, spontaneous or traumatic hyphema and cataract [4].

Posterior segment findings comprise sickle cell retinopathy and optic atrophy [5].

In this article we report the clinical and angiographic findings obtained in two asymptomatic sisters by simultaneous anterior and posterior widefield imaging.
