Duodenal Duplication with Pancreas Bifidum - A Case Report

Summary

Duodenal duplications constitute less than five percent of gastrointestinal duplications. Rarely, enteric duplication cysts are found in an intra- or juxtapancreatic position with or without connection to the pancreatic duct. Complete pancreaticoduodenal duplication is even less common, although there is a close relationship in the development of the two organs. We report here the case of a child with a paraduodenal cystic lesion, followed up since infancy, which turned out to be duodenal duplication cyst with a connection to Wirsung's duct of the ventral pancreas.

Résumé

Les duplications duodénales constituent moins de 5 % des duplications gastrointestinales. Rarement des duplications kystiques entérales sont trouvées en position intra ou juxta pancréatique avec ou sans connection avec le canal de Wirsung. Une duplication complète pancréatico-duodénale est moins fréquente, quoique les deux organes aient un développement très proche. Nous rapportons le cas d'un enfant avec une lésion kystique paraduodénale, suivie depuis l'enfance et qui s'est avérée être une duplication duodénale avec communication avec le canal de Wirsung du pancreas ventral.

Resumen

Las duodenales constituyen menos del 5 % de las duplicaciones gastrointestinales. Raramente se encuentran quistes entéricos en posición intra o yuxtapancreática con o sin conexión con el conducto pancreático. La duplicación pancreático-duodenal completa es aún menos frecuente a pesar de la relación estrecha de ambos órganos durante el desarrollo. Presentamos el caso de un niño con una lesión quística paraduodenal seguido desde la primera infancia que resultó ser una duplicación duodenal con conexión al conducto de Wirsung en el páncreas ventral.

Zusammenfassung

Weniger als 5 % aller Doppelbildungen des Magen-Darm-Traktes finden sich im Duodenum. Nur selten werden zystische Duplikaturen in oder neben der Bauchspeicheldrüse und mit oder ohne Verbindung zum Ductus pancreaticus beschrieben. Eine vollständige pankreatiko-duodenale Duplikatur ist noch wesentlich seltener, obwohl eine enge Beziehung in der Entwicklung beider Organe besteht. Es wird ein Fall einer paraduodenalen zystischen Duplikatur beschrieben, die eine Verbindung mit dem Ductus Wirsung janus einer ventralen Pankreashälfte aufwies.
