Significance

The Michael reaction has remained a powerful transformation in organic chemistry. This report represents a simple direct Michael reaction of β-ketoesters to unsaturated N-acylthiazolidinethiones. The high yields and high enantioselectivity of this reaction make it an attractive method for the formation of products that can easily be converted into dihydropyrone derivatives as well as acyclic keto-esters.
