Significance
A core-shell-structured droplet with a 5-nanometer-sized fluorous phase interior is spontaneously and quantitatively self-assembled from 12 palladium ions and 24 ligands. The ligands are concisely synthesized from the Mitsunobu or the Williamson reaction to attach the perfluoroalkyl groups followed by Sonogashira coupling with 4-ethynylpyridine to fulfill the banana shape for the construction of the rigid shell. The droplets are able to selectively host perfluoroalkanes in their void space predicted by the perfluoro tails of the ligands.
