Significance

An efficient and convenient method for the preparation of the aryl sulfides from aryl iodides and thiols was developed. Thus, the reaction of aryl iodides with thiols was performed in the presence of 20 mol% of copper nanoparticles, K2CO3, in DMF to give the corresponding aryl sulfides in 61-98% yield. The copper nanoparticles were prepared according to a literature procedure (H. Zhu, C. Zhang, Y. Yin Nanotechnology 2005, 16, 3079).
