Significance

Ethyl deoxymonate B is a precursor to pseudomonic acid B, a member of the pseudomonic acid family of antibiotics. The pyran core was synthesized by a base-promoted diastereoselective addition of an alkoxide to the α,β-unsaturated sulfoxide C to give a 2,3-trans-sulfinyl dihydropyran.
