In addition to nucleophilic ring-opening reactions at carbon, thiiranium ions are also susceptible to nucleophilic attack at sulfur. The relative rates of these reactions are dependent on the substitution patterns of the thiiranium ion; see: Lucchini V, Modena G, Pasi M, Pasquato L.
