Significance

A new synthesis of enantiopure 2-aminotetralins entails a rhodium(I)-catalyzed ­regiodivergent resolution (asymmetric ring opening) of the unsymmetrical racemic oxabenzonorbornadiene A. The scope of the reaction was demonstrated by the use of six different nitrogen nucleophiles, MeOH, i-PrOH, and indole.
