Significance

BMS-594726 is a potent and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that may be useful for the treatment of depression. The Bristol Myers Squibb synthesis features the first example of an enantioselective conjugate addition of indoles with an α-branched α,β-unsaturated aldehyde using imidazolidinone catalysis.
