Significance

The methodology presented here is the first example of intramolecular addition of carbonyl compounds to 1,6-enynes in the presence of cata­lytic amounts of gold(I). A remarkable feature of this reaction is the formation of a novel type of tricyclic compounds with two quaternary centers in vicinal positions.
