Significance

Mesoporous zinc sulfide nanospheres (MZNSS) were prepared by pyrolysis of Zn(OAc)2 and thiourea in the presence of poly­vinylpyrrolidone (PVP) (eq. 1). MZNSS catalyzed the reaction of aryl or benzyl nitriles with sodium azide to give the corresponding 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles in 76 to >99% yield (10 examples, eq. 2).
