In this article structures, syntheses, and reactions of oxyphosphoranes are discussed. The reactions of phosphorus(III) derivatives with carbonyl compounds which result in isolable P(5) and P(4) products are described. Emphasis is placed on the chemical behaviour of 2,2,2-trialkoxy-2,2-dihydro-1,3,2-dioxaphospholenes and -phospholanes and other cyclic oxyphosphoranes. 1. Structure of Oxyphosphoranes 2. Nomenclature and Scope of the Review 3. Classification of Syntheses 4. Reactions of 3-coordinate Phosphorus, P(3), with Carbonyl compounds 5. Reactions of 2,2,2-Trialkoxy-2,2-dihydro-1,3,2-dioxaphospholenes 6. Reactions of 2,2,2-Trialkoxy-2,2-dihydro-1,3,2-dioxaphospholanes 7. Reactions of Other Oxyphosphoranes
