Significance

Batzelladine D is a marine alkaloid with no known biological activity; however, other members of the batzelladine family have varied activities and the synthesis of the batzelladine tricyclic core is an important goal. This synthesis makes good use of azides as masked amines and a radical cyclization to construct the five-membered ring.
