Abstract

Outlined is a simple, convenient, scalable procedure for the synthesis of a variety of 5′-substituted m-terphenyl compounds from commercially available materials. A series of novel compounds were generated based on the m-terphenyl scaffold. In addition we present a full and complete characterization, including the crystal structure, of 3,5-diphenylbenzaldehyde (1,1′:3′,1′′-terphenyl-5′-carbaldehyde).
