Abstract

Fluorescence microscopic investigations on Ruta graveolens L. showed marked differences as to the localisation of acridone alkaloids in the different organs. Roots, both young and old, seem to be the richest organs in acridones. Intensive accumulation was observed in the parenchymatic cells of the protective tissues (calyptra, rhizodermis, hypodermis) of the young roots and in the xylem of the old ones. The acridones are granulated and attached to the cell wall or they are more or less homogenously distributed in the plasm. The typical secretory organs (idioblasts) are probably rich in acridones, too.
