ANTIFERTILITY EFFECT OF OIL FROM FEW INDIGENOUS PLANTS ON FEMALE ALBINO RATS

Abstract
The oil from five plants reputed to have antifertility activity have been tested in the female albino rats by a method which would detect any anti–zygotic, blastocystotoxic, antiimplantation or early abortifacient activity). The oil of Areca catechu (nuts), Carica papaya (pulp of the unripe fruits) and Grewia asiatica (seeds) showed encouraging antifertility activity at a dose of 500 mg/kg body weight in rats, while the oil from Daucus carota (seeds) and Ricinus communis (seeds) did not show any significant antifertility activity at different doses.
