PHYTO CHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF ERIGERON CRISPUS

Abstract

A phytochemical investigation of Erigeron crispus Pourr. was carried out. Two phytosterols were isolated from the unsaponifiable fraction of the light petroleum extract. A triterpenoid was isolated from the ether extract. Choline and quercetin were isolated and identified. The physical as well as chemical constants of the volatile oil are given. In addition, an investigation of the antimicrobial activity of the oil revealed that the oil is active against the acid–fast bacterium Mycobacterium phleii.
