Total synthesis of galtamycinone (1), the common structure in the C-glycosyl naphthacenequinone-class antibiotics, is described. The key step is the base-promoted regioselective cycloaddition of C-glycosyl chloronaphthoquinone 2 with homophthalic anhydride 6.
