Significance
Copper-mediated conjugated addition of organozinc reagents is a well-developed and frequently used methodology. Many accounts witnessing improvements and further development have been published in the past decade. However, this is one of the first publications that tackles the essential dilemmas regarding the stereochemical outcome of the reactions and nature of substrates used in this reaction. The authors have conducted series of comprehensive experiments that highlight the importance of several key factors operative in this transformation.
