Significance

(-)-Erinacine E was isolated in 1996 from Henricium erinaceum, which is used in Chinese folk medicine, and by fermentation from a different Henricium species. The 5-6-7 tricyclic cyathane skeleton is the common feature of the structurally related striatals and other erinacines.
